Home Updates: Living Room/Dining Room Before & After
We bought our first house 3.5 years ago when Leopold was just 3 months old. At that time, a 3 bedroom 2.5 bathroom house seemed enormous compared to our apartment! Tim was just in peds residency which was 3 years, but he added a fellowship and we added 2 kids and we are STILL in this house. It’s 1600 square feet and quickly becoming way too small!
When we bought the house, my HGTV-loving self could see the “good bones” and planned a long list of home renovations:
- Paint everything
- Rip up the carpet downstairs and replace with hardwood on 1st floor
- Take out the wall separating living room from dining room
- Replace flooring in bathroom with tile
- Renovate kitchen completely
- Replace bannister
- Add shower to master bathroom to make it a 5 piece
- Replace all light fixtures
3.5 years later, we still have a lot to do 🙂 We installed hardwoods on the first floor and knocked down a wall. Then we realized that home improvement projects are awful and we haven’t made much more progress. At this point, we are planning to move when Tim finishes his residency in a little over a year, so we have switched gears to prepping the house for sale.
Below are a few before and after photos of our living room and dining room after we installed hardwoods, painted and removed a half-wall. The “before” photos are from when we first toured the home. It’s still a work in progress!
We replaced the carpet with hardwoods, painted the entire room and removed the half-wall separating the living room and dining room.
We installed hardwoods, painted and changed out the light fixture.
I’ll continue to share some of the progress we made on the rest of the house in later posts with the tag “House”. Thanks for reading!
